Information about the course:
The Orly Portal Method (also known as “Portal to the Pelvis”) is a revolutionary and groundbreaking physical practice developed by Orly Portal, a dancer and choreographer, of about three decades. The method is based on ancient knowledge and wisdom from a variety of fields and cultures, from Western dance, North African tribes, Sufi dance, the Feldenkrais method, and more.
Practice of the method opens up the possibility of relaxing in the body, making friends with it, moving barriers, and discovering exciting spaces of pleasure.
In class, we learn to notice the sensations that arise from the body, pay attention to holds, contractions, and tension, as well as to well-being, to breathing that softens from within, and to the pleasure that lies in a round pelvis full of weight. From the encounter with the body exactly as it is in this moment, the gate opens to healing, movement refinement, and deep transformation.
The first part of the class begins with slow and meditative work on a mat Yoga, each in its own intimate exploration. A sequence of poses that seek to bring attention to the feeling of weight in the body parts, to the air sliding into the lower abdomen, to the possibility of letting go of unnecessary attachments and relying on the skeleton and the force of gravity.
From the swing on the floor, we will embark on spontaneous movement and then shift into movement in a circle and space. We will practice techniques of moving the pelvis through the rhythm of the knees, Egyptian and North African rhythms, musicality and coordination, the work of rotation, sweat and smiles.
