The Arab - Jewish Center

I.D.

The Arab - Jewish Center in Jaffa is a unique center for three communities and houses three cultures: Jewish, Christian and Muslim. As such, it carries the banner of partnership between the various populations in Israel.

The center has been working for a decade, with the goal of uniting between Jews and Arabs and to achieve co- existence between the nations. The center’s work integrates people with different opinions and religious beliefs in partnership and fraternity side by side.

The unification is done by way of art, dance, music, courses in additional training, and community works which contribute to the relations between the Arabs and Jews in Jaffa, to the harmony and patience. In this way, Christian, Muslim and Jewish children begin to learn, already from nursery school, to respect one another as human beings and are disciplined towards partnership among the nations.

The center functions within the framework of the community center department of the Tel Aviv- Jaffa municipality and constitutes a unique model for co- existence in Israel between Jewish and Arabic populations living in and out of Jaffa.

The school management of The Group in Jaffa has decided to continue working in the Arabic- Jewish Center for the fifth year, and sees this as an expression of taking part in the promotion of the Center’s goals regarding promoting the values of equality, human value, democracy and co- existence among the nations.

The Arab - Jewish Center (more)

The Center was established in 1993 with the goal of bringing together Jews and Arabs in Israel and teaching acceptance and partnership between the nations. The Center works through the values of humanism and equality among all people and is the source of new models for the promotion of educational and social goals.

The Center is situated in the heart of a commingled city, which has been, for a long time, a unique and extraordinary meeting point in Israel between three religions: Muslims, Christians and Jews. The Center is open every day of the year, continuously, day and night and is a center for the city’s inhabitants, an area for cultural work, enrichment, classes and an exposure to different traditions and cultures of all the religions.

The Center’s work

Classes and enrichment courses. During the afternoon and evening, the Center offers services to a wide variety of populations of all ages, various classes in art, dance, eastern and western music, sport, adult classes, languages, community work, culture and more.  Christians and Jews.

Enrichment and education for schools and nurseries. These classes take place mornings and evenings and offer a wide variety of enrichment courses integrated with the school study plans- this gives the schools and nurseries an opportunity to broaden their subjects of education and discipline, aided with professional rooms and auditoriums. Likewise, the Center offers help and reinforcement in learning and in preparation for matriculation exams and psychometric tests.

Work towards co- existence and democracy. The Center works under the banner of co-existence and creating a true dialogue between the two nations, living side by side. Towards this end, the Center organizes many yearly projects of meetings between schools and nurseries, Arabs and Jews, in an effort to allow for in- depth dialogue with the “other side”. This is done through conversations, various operations and with artistic means. Furthermore, there are a number of projects which acquaint mixed adult groups from Jaffa and from outside the city. Likewise, the Center is the only place in Israel with a Jewish Arab youth choir, conducted by Shlomo Gronich.

Social, welfare and community work. Aid given to needy families, projects aimed towards helping restricted communities, daycare for Jewish and Arab children from needy families, and a treatment layout which functions in schools and is situated within the community center. Likewise, the Center organizes community events and works in partnership with all the social and philanthropic organizations within Jaffa and outside the city.
